✨ Il 22 luglio si festeggia Santa Maria Maddalena, personaggio di primo piano della religione cristiana. Anche detta “di Magdala”, dalla località sul lago di Tiberiade ove nacque, in gioventù condusse una vita dissoluta dalla quale poi prese le distanze.
Avvicinatasi a Gesù, lo seguì nelle sue predicazioni e fu presente sul Calvario al momento della crocefissione. Maddalena fu la prima a vedere il Salvatore dopo la resurrezione allorché, recatasi al sepolcro per imbalsamarne il corpo con aromi, lo trovò vuoto. Scorse poi una figura che si rivelò essere Gesù, il quale le disse di non toccarlo e di diffondere la voce che era risorto ("Noli me tangere").
Quest’ultimo episodio è il soggetto di uno degli affreschi più celebri del Beato Angelico, situato nella cella 1 del convento di San Marco; lo troviamo anche in un'iniziale miniata del Graduale di San Domenico, sempre opera del nostro frate pittore.
✨ July 22nd is the feast day of St Mary Magdalene, a leading figure in the Christianity. Also called 'of Magdala', from the place on Lake Tiberias where she was born, in her youth she led a dissolute life from which she later distanced herself.
She came close to Jesus, followed him in his preaching and was present on Calvary at the moment of the crucifixion. Magdalene was the first to see the Saviour after the resurrection when, having gone to the tomb to embalm his body with aromas, she found it empty. She then saw a figure who turned out to be Jesus, who told her not to touch him and to spread the word that he had risen ("Noli me tangere").
We can see this episode in one of Fra Angelico's most famous frescoes, located in cell one of the museum; our friar painter also chose it as the subject of an illuminated initial of the Gradual of San Domenico.
